How do I chat with more than one friend at once?
If you’re chatting with a friend and want to add more friends to the conversation:
1.Click the actions menu at the top of your chat window.
2.Select Add Friends to Chat...
3.Enter the names of the friends you want to add, then click Done.

How do I chat with a group?
To chat with members of a group, go to the group and select "Chat with Group" on the upper right side of the page.

When you’re chatting with one friend and you add more friends to the conversation, a new chat window opens for the group. Friends who are added can’t see the private conversation that you and your friend were having before you created the group chat.

Once you’ve already set up a group chat and you add more friends, the chat continues in the same window. Friends that are new to the chat can see the full history of the group conversation. This allows them to go back and see what the group is talking about.

Google Plus threat to Facebook, Twitter

And thus, with Plus, Google owns us whole.

That is, of course, only one way of looking at Google's labour of over one year, when the team guys sat writing codes, eager to make as big an impact in the social media sector as in the mail, search, photo and document storage domains.

This time, they were also hoping to do one better than Orkut, which was literally steamrollered by Facebook in popularity and functionality, and certainly better than its disastrous Wave. The idea, one supposes, was to create a product that would make a mash of its prime competitors Facebook and Twitter and wipe them out. Will Google + do that?

Google + is still in its snooty, exclusive, I-will-call-you-don't-call-me phase, but let us remember that was Mark Zuckerberg's strategy initially as well. Facebook was the privy of exclusive Ivy League schools in the U.S. and the U.K. until the blitz happened. So, invitations are still scarce to come by, not all those in the Plus can extend invitations to friends who are still nonplussed. However, for sure, there are many more being added to my circles every night, nearly thrice the number than I started off with.

But when you are in, you may not notice this; it automatically signs you in on a secure (https) server, significant if you consider the recent controversies over Facebook taking liberties with users' privacy. So far, so good.

Even if you missed that, there is no way you cannot pause at the nearly spartan, neat, user interface. As yet uncluttered in comparison to FB, and only four silos (Home, Photos, Profile, Circles) to click on. Yeah, no games, and thankfully, no Farmville! On the face of it, it is simple; yet, it takes some initially to figure out the Google +. The ‘Stream' is the equivalent of FB's scroll newsfeed, and there are similar options — to share, edit, host photos and videos, and delete them. You can also ‘mute' those annoying conversations on your Stream. Phew! There is also the ‘Sparks' component, which according to Plus, “…looks for videos and articles that it thinks you'll like, so that when you're free, there's always something to watch, read and share.” Your grandpa will approve, it adds, but who is looking for Grandpa's approval rating on social media?

What is utterly out of the box for social media is the ‘Circle' concept. Literally, you can create your own social spheres, including friends, acquaintances, colleagues and contacts in different circles that are more than faintly reminiscent of school-level Set Theory. You can choose who you want to share specific information with, hiving off various groups that may be in conflict with each other: a boss versus someone to whom you are bitching about him.

A thumb tack aids you to transfer multiple persons on to the circles; and every circle you delete merrily jigs away out of the screen. Will subsets of intersecting Venn diagrams soon come to play, where diagrammatic impressions mapping friends who belong to more than one circle? It certainly will jazz Plus up. ‘Hangout' is Google's version of ‘teleportation,' a.k.a. ‘video chat' and is certainly cool thus far.

Mobile Google Plus is adapted finely for Apple's iOS and is functional on the Android platform (tried on HTC phones), but does not deign to work on the Symbian platform (tried on two of Nokia's E-series). Snooty again? Because even as the migration to Android or iOS gathers steam, there are still millions of users on Symbian, and everyone knows the link between Twitter's phenomenal growth and the facility of mobile phones.

Even if you are in, there is the fact that Plus is about a week old.

How to import Facebook friends to Google+

By now you’ve probably figured out from our Google+ coverage that we are big fans of Google’s latest social thingie. There’s just one problem with this service: There’s no easy way to bring all your Facebook friends to Google+ because, you know, Facebook and Google are at odds with each other. Lifehacker comes to the rescue with this nifty workaround.

It involves authorizing Yahoo Mail to access your Facebook account via Facebook Connect and then transferring Facebook contacts to the Yahoo Mail Address Book. From there, you can easily import them into Google+. Alternatively, you can use the Friends to Gmail web app to bring along all your Facebook contacts to Gmail. Both solutions will transfers only contacts, not other Facebook data or your social graph you’ve been building on Zuckerberg’s social network. And should you ever want to take out your data from Google+ or any other Google property, you can use the new Google Takeout service.

Google Unleashes First Wave of Google+ Invites

Google+, the search giant’s answer to Facebook, is currently in a “limited field test.” However, it looks like Google has opened the floodgates to the masses.

The Google+ project is the company’s social initiative that brings friend streams, group video chat and group texting to Google’s millions of users. Check out our review of Google+ if you want to learn more.
For the last few days, Google+ invites have not been available to the public, but apparentlyGoogle is prepared to test the service with a larger group. Google+ users will find a button that allows them to invite their friends on the Google+ Stream page. Invites are also available if a Google+ user shares content with a non-user via email.
Google+ invites are in high demand. I sent just one tweet and posted one update on Facebook, and I have received over 100 requests for invites. Request for Google+ invites are flooding Twitter.
Are you on Google +? Have you gotten a Google+ invite yet? Let us know what you think of Google’s social service in the comments.

Google+ is not for kids

02:59

If you attempt to sign in to Google+, the search giant’s latest social thing (available now on your phone via Android Market, coming soon to iPhone as a native app), the system will cut you off if you are not over a certain age, putting up this warning:
Could not sign you in to Google+. You must be over a certain age to use Google+.
By the way, what’s a certain age anyway and why don’t they make public the age limit? Because Google+ authorizes users with their Google Account, which is widely used across other Google properties, the system can tell your age by looking up the birth date information in your account.

Of course, kids can circumvent this by creating a brand new account and lying about their age, but the vast majority of ordinary users would prefer using Google+ with their real Google identity. The fun part? You cannot change the year of birth in your Google account. Also notice how the mobile Google+ site cleverly replicates standard iOS 5 dialogue box…

Even though Google is indirectly alluding that Google+ is no replacement for other social services, its executives have taken a few not-so-subtle swipes at Facebook. Chairman Eric Schmidt recently opined that other social networks cater to “every friend you’ve ever had, including the ones you can’t quite remember,” for example.
And senior vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra wrote in a blog post that “today’s online services turn friendship into fast food-wrapping everyone in ‘friend’ paper” whereas in real life “people in fact share selectively all the time – with their circles,” in a nod at perhaps the most distinctive feature of Google+.

How to bypass getting an invite for Google+

Posted by Unknown
02:57

Google+ was announced earlier in the week, but currently it is invite only. Last night Google opened invites for all users and later closed it down. Some of you may have been lucky and received an invite from us, but others not so. On his personal blog, David Di Franco has posted a guide on how to bypass the invite system, for now.

1. View your “Circles” page.
2. Click “Add a new person” to add someone to your circle.
3. Select your person from the list. If they are not appearing, simply inputtheir email address.
4. Add the person to your circle. After doing so, go to “Home” where you can view the stream.
5. Compose a new post, but make sure the box is checked next to “Also email…”
6. Click “Share” and you’re set. Now the person will see the post in their inbox, which will grant them access to Google+.

We can’t guarantee this will work, but if you have a friend with Google+ ask them to give it a try to this.

Gplus.to – Shortened URL for Google Plus profile

As Facebook and Twitter both has got a nifty feature that allows users to give their profile a link like facebook.com/mobileosreviews, instead of facebook.com/1234567890. This feature allows for easier sharing of profiles, and sadly the new social network Google+ doesn’t offer anything of the sort.

The shortened URL is pretty easy to setup, with the help of a little guide on the website. Gplus.to is currently boasting 32,000 users, and it seems to be growing at a fast pace. If you have a profile on Google+ why not give this a try and see how it works.
